Buckled bulker sheds oil in the Bosphorus

A week-long clean-up operation by the Turkish Coast Guard and more than 100 safety workers followed the grounding of a Moldovan-flagged bulker that haemorrhaged oil after splitting in two near the village of Kilyos at the northern end of the Bosphorus. The 16,950dwt Orgun C, which was en route to the Turkish port of Gemlick, was ravaged by a heavy storm a mile off the coast of Turkey on 19 January. After its engines failed, the crew lost control of the vessel, and it finally foundered on rocks near Kilyos.
