Explosion on tanker

An explosion that occurred on a 4,401 gt chemical tanker has ignited a controversy over illegally stored hazardous waste. Sovcomflot-owned tanker Mar Cristina was berthed at Oleon Scandinavia's facility in Sandefjord, Norway, on 30 August when the explosion occurred, buckling deck plates at the front of the ship. A plume of smoke was seen and strong odours reported. One person is believed to have sustained minor injuries.
