Pirates allowed naval forces to evacuate a sick crew member from a hijacked chemical tanker in December, according to EU Navfor. The man was evacuated from chemical/products tanker Hannibal II on 17 December after the hijackers allowed him to leave. He was taken to hospital in Djibouti after being treated for sus-pected appendicitis by medi-cal staff aboard German frig-ate FGS Hamburg. EU Navfor noted that he was "stable and very happy to be free".
