In its latest response to the Costa Concordia disaster, the cruise industry has announced enhanced lifeboat training procedures for all member operators. The mandatory rules, effective from 20 September, require a lifeboat to be launched, fully loaded, at least once every six months for crew training. In a joint statement, Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) and the European Cruise Council said: "During the training, the lifeboat is filled to capacity with crew members and manoeuvred in the water to facilitate familiarisation with lifeboat operations.
