Sp Brussels seafarers are freed

Medallion Marine, operator of the chemical tanker SP Brussels, said its five crew members have been released by pirates. The Indian company announced that all five were reported to be in good health, despite being held since 17 December. The 7,654dwt tanker was boarded and ransacked by heavily armed pirates around 40nm off the Niger Delta. They then kidnapped its crew members. On 26 January Medallion Marine expressed "admiration for the crew and their families, who have shown great courage and fortitude throughout this very difficult situation". Following medical examinations the seafarers were flown home "to be reunited with their families", the company added.
