Extreme weather, damp, and contaminants such as salt, grease, and cleaning products, can all impact on accident frequency. As guidance and regulation SOLAS specifies slip-free surfaces, but not specific materials. SOLAS Chapter Ⅱ-2, Regulation 1 3, 3.2.4.1 mandates "slip-free surfaces underfoot" on escape routes.
