摘要

Piracy has been in the spotlight over the past decade, along with the threats it poses to seafarers. While physical abuse of hostages has naturally garnered attention, its impact on a victim's mental health is gaining increasing focus. Oceans Beyond Piracy (OBP), a non-profit group that encourages effective responses to maritime piracy, released a report last year, After the release: the long-term behavioral impact of piracy on seafarers and families. The report was based on interviews and surveys focusing on 465 seafarers from India, Ukraine, and the Philippines, including 101 former hostages. It also included input from 38 family members of seafarers and looked at maritime experiences across the board.
