PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a beveling section deepest position detection device and a detection method for detecting accurately the deepest position in a beveling section formed on a thrusting part outer circumferential surface of a steel pipe.;SOLUTION: This beveling section deepest position detection device 1 includes: a spot type laser range finder 3 for spot-irradiating laser light L toward a beveling section Ks, and measuring a depth of the beveling section from the irradiated laser light and its reflected light, while changing laser irradiation intensity corresponding to the degree of its reflected light quantity; a driving mechanism 4 for moving the spot type laser range finder 3 in the scanning direction S; and a controller 20 for acquiring scanning position information corresponding to a position in the scanning direction S driven by the driving mechanism 4 and the beveling section depth information measured by the spot type laser range finder 3, and calculating the deepest position in the beveling section based on each information.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
