IOSH's Research and Development Fund commissions a number of projects annually, all in the name of advancing sensible occupational health and safety policy and practice. Last year, the Institution commissioned a sun safety DVD for the construction sector, research into musculoskeletal disorders among health-care workers, and a study into the effectiveness of different safety rules and procedures. Jane White, the Institution's research and information services manager, said: "IOSH's Research and Development Fund is about the organisation shaping thinking and finding practical solutions. "The two funds provide IOSH members and academic researchers the opportunity to look at some of the issues closest to them, and to do something about them. "If you have a new and innovative idea that could help shape the future of health and safety, or you're an experienced researcher interested in the occupational health and safety field, then you should apply for funding."
