Modified Binders, Binders with Additives and special Bitumens

This report is concerned with modified binders, bituminous binders with an additive and special bitumens. In the absence of internationally accepted terminology, these terms have been defined as follows: These are bituminous binders whose properties have been modified by the use of a chemical agent. When added to the initial binder, this agent modifies its chemical structure and/or physical and mechanical properties. These binders can either be manufactured at a separate plant, which is not at the worksite, or by a special mobile unit immediately before use. These binders can be characterized without being part of a bituminous mix.%Ce rapport est consacré aux liants modifiés, aux liants bitumineux avec additif ainsi qu'aux bitumes spéciaux. Dans l'attente d'une terminologie acceptée internationalement, les définitions de termes suivantes ont été retenues. Il s'agit des liants bitumineux dont les propriétés ont été modifiées par emploi d'un agent chimique qui, introduit dans le bitume de base, en modifie la structure chimique et/ou les propriétés physiques et mécaniques. Il s'agit de liants préfabriqués soit dans une usine séparée du lieu d'utilisation, soit immédiatement avant l'emploi par une unité mobile spécialisée. Le liant ainsi modifié peut être caractérisé en tant que tel séparément du mélange bitumineux.
