The politics of offshore drilling is changing, and one thing both Democratic and Republican lawmakers can agree on is that increased safety measures will likely be implemented as a result of the tragic accident in the Gulf of Mexico on April 20 where oil continues to leak into the Gulf from the site of the Deepwater Horizon drilling platform, 50 miles off the Louisiana Coast. Tragically, 11 workers lost their lives, and the legislative fallout over how poorly the U.S. may have beenrnprepared to deal with a big offshore oil spill will be felt in the months and years ahead.
