First-year allowances back on the agenda?

A point members keep making at regional council meetings and elsewhere is that the government needs to restore first-year allowances (capital allowances) which were cut back dramatically in April. We are revisiting this, with like-minded trade associations, after failing over more than a year to stop the changes being implemented. To summarise the arguments for and against, the government dislikes first-year allowances because they complicate the tax system that it says it is trying to simplify; it costs government money and it supports poorly-run businesses.
