Pump shotguns are rarely seen in 3-Gunning because they're just too slow-no matter how fast you think you are. Occasionally you will find a match where pump shotguns have their own separate classification, but for the most part you need a semiautomatic to be competitive.rnShotgun targets at 3-Gun matches are usually falling steel plates or pepper poppers, but be prepared for the unusual. Falling poppers that throw clay pigeons are getting pretty popular, and stages that require the shooter to throw a slug or two into their shotguns to perforate a cardboard silhouette at distance are not uncommon. (Note: Do not bring steel shot or any non-lead slug to a match.)
