The task of judging architectural awards and competitions has always been complex and reflects the sophisticated creations they are measuring and the range of qualities that good architecture can and should encompass. But this does not mean it is prohibitively difficult to enter awards. With a clear understanding of the judges' expectations and the elements that make a good entry, architectural awards can be accessible to all practices. Last month the importance of planning ahead was discussed (RIBAJ, April, pIV). This month I look at the winning elements to awards submissions.
