Archictural practice NBBJ was founded in Seattle, Washington, in 1943 and over the past six decades it has expanded both geographically and in terms of the range of design, planning and management skills it offers. Four years ago, when NBBJ decided to open a studio in London with the aim of working for clients across Europe, assembling the right team of people was critical. The challenge of growing a practice in a new market where it was largely unknown meant establishing the right culture to attract people with the right skill base and experience in this market. We knew that importing a team of American architects to set up shop was not the way to grow the business.
