How mixed is mixed tenure? Often, not at all. One leading housing architect recalls visiting a completed scheme and being shocked to find the client had put up a high fence between the private and social components. Such blatant segregation may be rare, but there's no shortage of tales of unequal treatment. Poorer views, meaner specification, no balconies - it's often the social component of housing schemes that ends up second best, especially when it is delivered through Section 106 agreements with private developers.
