GOOD DESIGN CUTS THROUGH CONFUSION

Perceptions have grown in recent months that there may be some fundamental contradictions in current government policy. On the one hand there are localism calls for neighbourhood engagement in development decisions - community buy-in to deliver a positive attitude to growth at a local level; while on the other the budget declared a pro-growth approach with a move to removing barriers in planning. The James report recommends to government that schools should be delivered to a standardised design to gain the efficiencies produced by central control and bulk purchasing.
