摘要

The subject of reducing the tangential tension (from 30 to 10 N) of 3-piece oil rings for gasoline engines was analyzed through measurements to oil consumption, friction, ring motion, and oil film thickness (LIF Method). Although oil consumption increases under high engine speed operation with tension reduced oil rings, setting the ring width , h_1, to 2.0 mm decreased the oil consumption significantly. Analysis of this phenomenon reveals sealing ability on the side surfaces at oil ring and piston motion during the intake stroke to be the key issues. Further reduction in the tangential tension of oil rings is possible through this improvement.
