Enhancing maneuverability with driving manipulating devices based on older driver physical characteristics

This paper investigates the effectiveness of the proposed manipulating devices based on older driver physical characteristics. Experimental studies by the use of a driving simulator clarified the following points: 1. Applying a push and pull lever that acts as brake and accelerator, which has already been used for the lower limb disabled, to elder drivers brings them more driving workload. 2. The manipulating device, which consists of brake levers attached to the steering wheel and a general accelerator pedal, can effectively reduce older driver's workload, compared with the general manipulating device.
