Efficiency of Additives for Low Sulphur Diesel Fuel on Lubricity Improvement of Gas-to-liquid (GTL) Fuels

In this study, the lubricity of three different GTL fuels were measured with a High Frequency Reciprocating Rig (HFRR) and compared with those of ultra low sulphur diesel fuels (ULS). Two kinds of compounds were prepared as lubricity additives: unsaturated fatty acids (UFA-type) and their partial glycerides (Ester-type). Their lubricity efficiency was also investigated at various additive concentrations. Furthermore, the effect of blending GTLs with ULS fuel or GTL kerosene on lubricity was also investigated. All GTL fuels required a higher content of lubricity improvers to achieve less than 460μm. A similar trend was observed for kerosene mixtures.
