Imported whisky/whiskey has taken an increasing share of the UK spirits market over the last decade, although sales remain modest when compared with those of Scotch. Albeit for markedly differing reasons, each of the three principal origins (the USA, Canada and Ireland) has experienced strong volume growth. Collectively, such products have seen sales rise by 165 per cent between 1987 And 1997, form 310,000 cases to 820,000 cases, lifting their share of aggregate Spirits sales (in terms of lpa) from 1.1 per cent to 3.3 per cent.
