This volume provides a comprehensive overview of juvenile violence within the USA. The topics covered include juvenile violence in relation to gender, culture, social class, minorities and drug use. Descriptions and analysis are given for some of the most prominent recent juvenile crimes such as the Columbine High School shootings and the Central Park Jogger. Along with the types and incidences of juvenile violence and their rate of occurrence, material is presented on the characteristics of those most likely to commit a particular type of crime. There are sections on preventative policies and juvenile justice organizations, the US juvenile justice system and the effect and impact of the media. Researchers in this field will find the references to major surveys a useful resource.
