Silent film is the very beginning of using moving image to tell stories and impart information. Where narrative beforehand was presented in books, in the theatre, in music and oral storytelling, film opened up a brave new world of active storytelling which could be shared and distributed to far wider audiences. Alexander Street Press now have a curated collection of silent film which celebrates and analyses the films, themes and key figures in this era. Not only can one watch the films themselves (in their entirety or selections), there is also a selection of modern-day documentaries about the era, the film-making process and about key figures in the industry.
