The Wiley Blackwell Encyclopedia of Consumption and Consumer Studies considers the factors associated with people's need to attain and retain goods and what they are influenced by when making their choices from a selection of goods or commodities. This review is based on the hard-copy version; an e-book version is also available. Aiming "to bring together the latest research and theories in the field", the encyclopaedia has over 200 entries which are listed in alphabetical order, but this is supplemented with a Lexicon at the start of the book, which identifies key themes and maps them to relevant entries. The themes cover Technology and New Media; Globalisation; Identities; Inequality; Key Figures; Movements; Practices, Race, Gender, Body and Sexuality; and Situation Consumption and Theories. These are mapped out onto entries as diverse as Apple, Barbie, Tween & Teens, Celebrity, Andy Warhol, Ecotourism, Masculinity, Jean Baudrillard, Medical Tourism, Fair Trade, Weddings and Cool hunting.
