SWT orders Siemens Desiro City EMUs

South west Trains has ordered 30 new five-coach Siemens Desiro City EMUs to provide additional capacity on some of its routes into Waterloo, at a cost of £210m. The deal, which is being financed through train leasing company Angel, will see units similar to the Class 700 Thameslink sets working as ten-car formations between Waterloo and Windsor. EMUs displaced from these duties will then be cascaded to provide additional capacity on routes to destinations such as Staines, Guildford, Cobham, Kingston and Epsom where ten-coach trains will also be the norm.
