It's always good when a series of books appears which tries something new and turns into a desirable collection. This series has the concept of reprinting the famed Bradshaw's Guide of 1863, illustrated with contemporary images, as well as many from years gone by. It is a formula which cannot fail. So, this journey nearly does what it says on the tin (cover) and takes the reader from Manchester through Warrington, Carlisle to Glasgow... and also includes Crewe, Liverpool and various branches. There are plenty of evocative images from Victorian times through to the 1960s, with some in sepia adding to the ambience. What's interesting is that the detail relating to the various towns and cities often reveals unusual data.
