摘要

If you speak to people'who were around in the 1950s and ask them what they remember from 1951, most will mention Churchill as the Prime Minister, rationing, and the fact that Brian Morrison had his first railway photograph published. However, 1951 is memorable for more than just rationing and the return of Winston Churchill as PM. The events of 14 May have gone down in history as the day the world's first preserved train ran on the world's first preserved line - the Talyllyn Railway. A debt of gratitude is due to those preservationists, without whose faith, bravery and pioneering vision, many of today's preserved railways could well have become just another faded memory to be eventually tost to the sands of time.
