Rehabilitation of the run-down and war-damaged rail network reached a major milestone with the official reopening of an initial section on October 22, around 18 months after trains had ceased. The first cement traffic was carried in early October on a 117 km stretch between Phnom Penh and Touk Meas, and concessionaire Toll Royal Railway and the government are discussing the reintroduction of passenger services (RG 11.10 p48).
