We live in an increasingly mobile dependent world, where once you wouldn't leave home without your purse or wallet, today many of us place the same importance on having our mobile phones at our side at all times. In recent years, Host Card Emulation (HCE) has been the key enabler in driving the mass adoption of mobile payments such Android Pay, Samsung Pay or Google Pay; now the technology is finally coming of age for ticketing and its impact for the rail industry and the traveling public could be profound. Transport operators such as Strathclyde Partnership for Transport has already announced it will utilise HCE based mobile ticketing for the Glasgow Subway system this year.
