DB Regio nets Tyne & Wear Metro contract

Nexus announced on December 4 that it had selected DB Regio as preferred bidder for a concession to operate the Tyne ft Wear Metro for a period of seven years commencing on April 1 2010, with a two-year extension option.rnOnce the contract is signed in mid-January, around 400 of 670 staff will transfer to DB Regio (Tyne ft Wear) Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Germany's state railway which has been actively expanding outside its home territory. This is its first UK contract win, DB having entered the franchising and freight markets through the acquisition of Chiltern Railways and EWS.
