A Study of Noise from the Tyne and Wear Metrocar

This paper reports on a detailed study of the noise emitted by the new Metrocar which will be in operation in Tyne and Wear from 1980. The level and frequency characteristics of wayside, standstill, braking and accelerating noise are discussed. A formula is derived empirically which enables the peak noise level at a given distance from a Metrocar travelling at a particular speed in a free-field situation to be predicted.
