In a letter to an MP who had passed on a constituent's concerns about the cost of the Intercity Express Programme, Transport Minister Simon Burns argues that IEP cannot be compared with alternative rolling stock solutions. RBI analysis (RB1425 p1) has revealed that at £74 000 per diagrammed vehicle per month under the 27.5-year train service provision deal, IEP was double the cost of a Pendolino-based alternative.
