Supertram renewals

South Yorkshire PTE has awarded VolkerRail a contract to undertake the second phase of the rail renewal programme on the Sheffield Supertram network. Work in the Hillsborough and Malin Bridge area was expected to begin on March 29 and take four weeks to complete. The contract awarded to VolkerRail to undertake Phase 2 of the embedded rail replacement works has a final value of £10•1 5m. As well as the replacement and disposal of 8 km of 'life-expired' rail, the contract includes pre-treatment of the new rail.
