'As the rail industry grows, we need to attract the right skills and talent', said Hitachi Rail Europe Managing Director Karen Boswell in her Presidential Address to the Railway Study Association in London on November 11. 'Experience tells me that inclusion is key to building a successful team.' Asking 'does the rail industry give two hoots about diversity, and does it matter', the former East Coast Managing Director pointed out that only 18% of employees in the UK rail sector today are women, and in engineering the figure falls to 5%. As a result, she felt, the industry was missing out on a large proportion of the available talent pool.
