Record order book for Costain

Standing at a record £3.5bn at December 31 2014, the order book at Costain Group plc was up from £3bn the year before, according to a trading update issued on January 7. This followed the award throughout 2014 of 'multi-disciplined, large-scale contracts helping to meet national needs', including two frameworks to deliver Network Rail's National Electrification Programme, won in joint venture with Alstom and Babcock International (RB1456 p7). The order book included £1bn of revenue secured for 2015, compared to the £750m secured for 2014, as well as £2.5bn for 2016 and beyond providing 'good long-term visibility'. Costain also reported 'a strong preferred bidder position of over £500m', and ended 2014 with 'a strong net cash position of over £140m', providing 'confidence and visibility for the future' according to Chief Executive Andrew Wyllie.
