Tim Kirby improves his capability of receiving ADS-B transmissions, tries out the Moonraker 1090MHz Base Aerial, takes his marine VHF examination and discusses short-skip propagation conditions in summer. Last month, I described getting set up with a FlightAware ADS-B receiver using a Raspberry Pi (RadioUser, May 2019:46-48). When I wrote the last column, I had installed the receiver in my greenhouse, with the aerial just inside its roof. I was pleased with the results, receiving aircraft out to at least 200 miles in some directions.
