Why did Juan de La Cierva design the autogyro? Struck by accidents caused by too low speed and consequent wing stall of the traditional aircraft, his idea was a wing which couldn't stall and was always in motion at a good and proper velocity (so the rotating blade) - practically a spinning wing. A photo exists showing La Cierva with a five-blade model, inspired by the windmills existing in his country. La Cierva was an aeromodeller like Langley, Wright, Messerschmitt, Breguet, Bazzocchi and many famous aeronautical engineers.
