Ahlstrom's Label Paper Unit Ailing Again In 2008

In the 2008 financial year the Release and Label Paper business unit of Ahlstrom Corporation showed a poorer performance than in 2007. Sales dropped by 7.6%, a fact that the company attributes primarily to the closure of the Ascoli/ltaly and Chantraine/ France label plants. While no concrete sales figures were published for this product area, the Specialty Papers segment, which also includes technical paper besides release and label papers, generated sales of €822.4m in 2008 (2007: €824.7m). However, the drop of release and label paper sales was almost offset by 4.6% growth recorded for technical papers. The entire segment's operating profit declined by 9.3% to €12.6m, with the poor performance of release and label papers in particular having had a negative impact on this figure.
