Germany: Capacity closures to 'reshuffle the cards' in the magazine paper market

Producers of magazine paper report that order intake is improving. However, suppliers to the German market say the coronavirus-related plunge in the publication paper business has been significant in the past weeks and months, in terms of both volumes and paper prices. There are fears that the current low prices will become established on the market until the end of the year. Looking ahead to the upcoming price round for 2021, the "cards will be reshuffled," say industry representatives, pointing to recent announcements of massive capacity reductions at SCA, UPM and Stora Enso.
