Fear of Text

On Aug. 5, 2009, the Black Hawk Consolidated Public Safety Communications Center in Waterloo, Iowa, became the first U.S. PSAP to successfully receive a text message. The message was sent to 9-1-1 through a selective router. PSAPrnadministrators, managers and personnel shuddered. Our worst nightmare has come true. Text messages sent to 9-1-1? Whatever will we do? How will we handle the sudden onslaught of messages? Cellular 9-1-1 calls were bad enough.
