I recently read an expose that appeared on ABC-TV news in New York called, "Military Radios That Don't Work."1 That's a scary headline. If you read the article and watch the video, it's—sadly—laughable to us techies and any public safety radio expert. It's a typi­cal federal snafu, and "the-sky-is-falling" attitude from the media. Of course, it's easier to blame the radios than its users or systems. A recap: The U.S. Military Academy at West Point has a fire department that uses digital radios, as mandated by the feds years ago. The firefighters complain that the audio is garbled and, therefore, "puts the firefighters in danger."
