The fault detection is applied to a microcontroller (3) driving peripheral devices (1,2), using a master-slave addressing protocol with acknowledgement (the I2C-bus specification). A failure to acknowledge generates an anomaly at a specific address which receives information concerning program execution. The anomaly information is delivered to a logic analyser or oscilloscope (6).
