New rules make it easier for insurers to invest in listed property firms

New European regulations that will make it easier for insurers to invest in listed real estate companies were passed at the weekend. Under European Solvency Ⅱ regulations, insurance firms previously had to hold 39% of the value of their investment which the European Public Real Estate Association (EPRA) said was prohibitive. The new rules reduce this capital requirement to 22% for long-term investments in equities.
