Fashion may be a glamorous industry but, famously, it does not pay well - for many starting out in the business, the cachet of working long hours for a top designer is considered a form of payment in kind. Always sensitive to fluctuations in the high street, fashion's relative parsimony also applies to rents. That poses a problem for many fashion occupiers, which have traditionally been based in central London but are now, like other office occupiers, facing ever-increasing rents. In and around Oxford Street and Mayfair, where fashion occupiers have traditionally clustered, office rents are now hitting record levels - with prime rents rising well above £100/sq ft.
