Cross-party policies would give housebuilders stability to plan

Politicians across the spectrum recognise there is a housing mm crisis but, sadly, they appear to agree on little else. After Bank of England governor Mark Carney highlighted the critical undersupply of housing in the UK, the time may have come for a cross-party approach. And if increasing supply is the answer to fixing the "deep, deep structural problems" he alluded to, perhaps policymakers should listen to what housebuilders are saying. After all, contrary to most of the post-war period, the onus for providing housing in the UK now falls largely on private housebuilders.
