Bath is to lose 3,000 defence jobs, but only when Ministry of Defence workers relocate to Bristol after 2013. However, their departure will release 88 acres around Bath that could accommodate 1,240 homes. This is the outcome of the "homes v jobs" controversy that has raged in Bath for more than a vear. Local Doliticians camDaianed to retain the MoD's pensions, audit and other services at Ensleigh (25 acres), Foxhill (46 acres) and Warminster Road (17 acres). Most of the staff work in converted H-block-style 1930s military hospitals. The buildings are not listed, and will be demolished after workers relocate to the largest military facility in the country at Abbey Wood, Filton. They will take over the space created by defence cuts. The first 4 acres of Ensleigh are about to be put out to tender this month by the MoD's agent, Gordon Isgrove, a director of CVA in Bristol. The remaining Ensleigh site will be offered next year.
