The European Commission is close to approving a reduction in the capital holding requirements for investments in listed real estate companies. The change is expected to lead to increased investment from insurers in public European real estate companies. Currently, under European Solvency II regulation, insurance firms must hold 39% of the value of the investment, which the European Public Real Estate Association (EPRA) says is prohibitive.
