San Francisco tour boat gashed while sailing too dose to island

A party boat struck a shoal near Alcatraz Island during a flood tide in San Francisco Bay, interrupting a beer-tasting cruise. Neptune, a 45-foot cabin top cruiser, was hosting a bachelor party Oct. 13, 2012, when it got too close to the north side of Alcatraz Island and struck a shoal. The U.S. Coast Guard received die call at 2042 stating that Neptune had a one-foot gash in its side. The incident involved no mechanical steering failure and Neptune was operating in an area sailed in by other vessels.
