Christian Wolmar's profile of Terry Morgan was of particular interest to me, as it was a major endorsement of the apprenticeship schemes of that era. At that time I was a junior training officer at British Nylon Spinners in Pontypool. We, too, had an extensive scheme for young people, albeit nowhere near as broad as that provided by the Girlings Engineering School. The latter included physical training with numerous youth sports teams, as well as craft and technical education.
