This paper describes the author's new attempt to introduce an10-hour lecture on low voltage (LV) distribution system with a 5-hourndesign exercise and a 5-hour project work for all electrical engineeringnstudents. It is felt that most of the electrical engineering graduatesnwill possibly encounter more applications in the LV system rather thannthe traditional power system analysis. The system earthing and thenassociated electrical parts for the LV network can be easily implementednin a laboratory for students to test and operate. In the designnexercise, the PC-based integrated tool not only guides the students in anstep-by-step approach and provides a CAD tool to automate the repetitivendesign process, it also evaluates the student's performance in thendesign exercise by using error log and a demerit point system. In thenguided project work, the students are exposed to a physical LV simulatornidentical to an industrial installation to carry out inspection,ntesting, turn-on supply, fault diagnosis and restoration of supply. In ansurvey from 600 students, 24% strongly agreed, and 52% agreed that thisn10-hour design and project works are useful and challenging. Manynstudents expressed that they are interested in their first exposure to anpower engineering project
